Jane Doe #10 - Therese Serignese Explains Speaking About Bill Cosby Sexual Assault Now

Posted in: ,

Therese Serignese is another woman adding her story, face and name to the list of those who say they were sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby. Therese reveals that she was Jane Doe #10 in the case that the comic settled out of court in 2006.

Therese Serignese, now 57, was still a teenager in 1976 when she says a man, Bill Cosby, made a sexual advance on her outside the Las Vegas Hilton where he was to perform later that night. He invited her to the show and she said yes. She believes more women are only coming out now, decades after the abuse because when you're older, you care less what people think of you.

According to the story she told PEOPLE, Serignese says though she has taken money in the past from Bill Cosby, she is now asking for the apology she never received for that first assault.

"I think that people want him to acknowledge that he harmed women, he took sexual advantage of them, that he did do these wrongs to people," she says. "We're all older now. There's not so much the fear that we're going to be shamed, that we're going to be humiliated, that basically we're going to be accused of lying. At this point in life, you don't care what other people think. It's all about telling the truth and making him in some way accountable.

"He has to have a conscience. Internally I think he's thinking about what he did all of his life. And internally I think he probably does feel bad. Is that enough for me? Yeah – that, and an apology."

Theresa recounts that after meeting Bill Cosby on that first day in 1976 while with her siblings;

He offered her – and only her – a free ticket to his show, she says. And when she was escorted backstage afterward to the green room, she remembers feeling that she was meant to stay as the 10 or so other people there made their goodbyes. Alone with the entertainer, she claims he approached her on a couch, held out his hand, "and he had two pills there, and a glass of water, and he told me to take them.

The pills, she says, were Quaaludes. "He identified what they were; that's how I knew," she says. "At that point I didn't know what to do, so I just obeyed. I just did it."

"My next memory is I felt high; I don't remember what happened in the meantime. Then my next memory is being in that vanity room, by that big mirror, and he didn't have any clothes on, and obviously I didn't either by that point. I don't know how they got off. I don't have that memory."

They were, she says, in the midst of intercourse. "I was just like bent over, and he was saying all kinds of dirty stuff," she says. "I felt powerless, I didn't know what to do, and the drugs certainly enhanced that. That's what I remember – having sex with him, not wanting to be there, not knowing how to get out of there."

Therese Serignese tells her local TV station she actually told her now late mother of the initial assault the day after but her mother encouraged her to continue a relationship with Bill Cosby.

"She just looked at me and said 'maybe he'll take care of you,' " Sherignese said.

Therese said Cosby let her stay at his penthouse suite for several weeks. She said he later asked her to leave when she told him she might be pregnant. It was a false alarm. Therese said she saw Cosby on several occasions throughout the years, but got married and moved on.

She said it wasn't until she moved to Florida and got into a financial bind that she reached out to Cosby again. Therese said Cosby promised her years ago to give her 500 dollars if she went to school and made all As. She eventually went to nursing school and did well. She said she wanted Cosby to make good on his promise and he did.

"That's when I got the Western Union. The secretary called me up the next day and she said go to Western Union. You got something from Bill Cosby," she said.

Therese said Cosby sent her $10,000. She said Cosby's agency sent another check for $5,000. That was in the mid 90s. Therese never heard from or reached out to Cosby again. She never went public with the first allegations of rape that first night they met until 2005. That's when another woman came forward with what Therese says was a similar story.

"How dare he. Still doing this 30 years later."

Therese became a witness, Jane Doe ten, but the case was settled out of court and died down. And now as the allegations come forward again, Therese said it's time to share her story.

She said, "I'm gonna say to Bill Cosby. You do owe me an explanation for why you did this to me. I want an apology. I want you to apologize for hurting me. I want you to apologize for taking advantage of me."

Therese said she doesn't care if people believe her story, she's doing it because she believes there are other victims out there. Serignese says she joined the lawsuit in 2006 and is speaking out now because he hurt her.

"He changed the course of my life. He made me a victim. I felt powerless … As much as I've heard him say that people go after him for his money and because of his fame, I think it's the opposite. I think he uses his fame and fortune to come after people's innocence."
