Goldie's Tribute Video and Official Statement on her Death

Posted in: ,

I went offline yesterday still somehow hoping this was a hoax. I woke up to Atala telling me it was on BBC News, and the day got duller than just from the weather outside my window. The Vanguard reports that Goldie died of pulmonary embolism, but the speculations are unconfirmed. This is the statement from the CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe;

“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening.

“We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.”

The Subtle Dating Signs that Men Might Miss

She just might be more into you than you think - Part 2 by Tobi Atte

There ARE some good men out there. Unfortunately many of them are not very good at telling when a woman is even somewhat interested in sparking a conversation or in actually starting the “dance” that may lead to a relationship.

You need not suffer not only because of the information I’m about to give you but also because worrying if a woman is interested in you and showing that “worry” is not a good look. Worrying about what she thinks may be the very reason why she may not be attracted to you. It portrays you as weak and insecure, and that’s the vibe she will pick up from you.

Women are often attracted to the man who is perceived as totally comfortable in his own skin…who is not worried about what women in the room think.

So focus on BEING interesting and appealing in the moment…enjoying yourself… rather than TRYING to be interesting or appealing. Don’t focus on what she thinks…focus on simply BEING….(More on that another day). If you missed the first three, take a make a quick U-TURN and read them HERE. Here are the other 3.

For Better, For Worse, Dies...

Posted in: , ,

Walking on my toes, silently, from the bedroom into the kitchen; I cut into the big loaf of bread with the sharpest knife on the cabinet long before you wake. I want no sounds heard; this silence is my power and warm bed. Your food is served- ready to be dipped into when you awake. My mind doesn’t want the bother of words that hold no water, have bad taste and stink like a soiled bed wetter’s mattress. No words, just like it was yesterday.

I walk on my toes to the room, lie down beside you and pretend to sleep when I feel your weight move off the bed. You glance at me- idiot, I curse inside. What is left of me but the poundings of anger, neglect and disgrace? Two deaths and promises that fell into the thin air of nothingness. I stood by you when you had nothing, now too much money has stuffed your stomach with pride. Your lies, cheating and insults have shaved all hopes of new beginnings like the drums of bleakness beating in an average Nigerians heart.

I have resigned to fate, I will be the maid you never let me have, the whore that opens her legs as easily as you roll your roll-on under your arms, and a fashionista that smiles as we take the perfect picture. I am the first lady that feels like the last. My death acceptance is my Nigerian norm.

Tell me, where does a Governor’s wife run when her husband is the law of the land? She dies to the travails of living without rules and laws, yet baptised in political lies and unrestrained power.

AY and Mabel Makun on Marriage - Follow Your Heart

Posted in: , ,

How long have you both been married?

Mabel: We got married in 2008. That was five years ago.

How tough was the wooing process and how long did it take for her to accept to be your girl?

AY: There was actually no such thing as wooing process when I met her. All I wanted was for her to be a part of the beauty contest that I was organising. I was still a student and even continued with the pageants after graduation from the Delta State University. She did not waste any time in turning me down because she was a fresh student who was busy going about her activities on campus. We soon became friends the following year, we clicked naturally. In the last eight years, she has been my best friend, girlfriend, wife, soul mate and baby mama.

What attracted you to AY?

Mabel: When I got admission into the Delta State University, I started hearing about a guy called, Ayo Makun, who was the organiser of The Most Beautiful Girl in DELSU pageant and DELSU Achievers Merit Awards. When I finally met him, I realised that apart from been a very hardworking man, he was also very talented and intelligent. I also found out that he lost his parents while he was still in school, but managed to stay focused while he saw himself and his siblings through school. That simply became an irresistible attraction.

Photo Tribute to Goldie Harvey - Rest in Peace

Goldie Harvey - 2013 Photoshoot

Goldie Harvey is dead. I was just checking in to social media to while away time while waiting for stuff and then I saw this news in several places, from twitter to the blogs, and finally, I had to accept it. The singer has passed on. First I thought it was a hoax but reports were unanimous with their confirmations. Goldie apparently was declared dead last night at Reddington Hospital, Lagos, after just returning from the US.

The administrators of Goldie's Facebook Page confirmed her death thus; "It is with heavy heart that I have to inform you all that Goldie passed this night shortly after arriving Lagos from LA. May her soul rest in the eternal peace of the Lord - Admin!!"

They say it’s best to bow out when the ovation is loudest, but this is so sad! I enjoyed Goldie's music, the persona she created for herself, the person I saw in her interviews, and just last week, Afronuts mentioned she had visited his office, and he got a glimpse of the woman without the glamour, as she shopped her reality TV series with Denrele, set to launch in a few weeks. And this is what we see? On Valentine's Day too?

Dear Myne - My Husband Has Abandoned Me

Posted in: , ,

Hello Myne, I am a 29 year old woman who met Joe four years ago. When we met I was a temporary staff at my office, he had a comfortable job and a service car. He was nice to me, would on occasion give me money, not huge sums though. One year later,  Joe resigned from his job to start his own business.

A few months after his resignation I was made permanent at my company. God had been good to me and I bought a car. I was so in love with Joe and was determined to make things work for him. I loaned him about 10 000 dollars in small bits for the two plus years we were dating. He needed the money as business was slow and I obliged.

By the time we were getting married last year I decided to sell my car for wedding expenses and starting a family. I entrusted the sale to Joe. I found out after the wedding that he had sold it and used the money for his business without telling me. We live in different towns so along with my car, it was easy for him to sell all my household equipment and some of our wedding gifts.

Happy Valentine's Day - Ask Me Anything!

Posted in: ,

I hope everyone is having a fun day, by themselves, with friends or family, or with a love interest or significant other. Valentine's Day happens to be Atala and I's wedding anniversary, and so it is extra special for us. Plans have been made and both of us will be taking most of the day off for some sweet TLC and relaxation. Like I told an interviewer recently, a "massage for two is on the cards, as is a dinner. The real fun starts after all that." LOL...can't wait!

On this blog, it is three and a half years since I started blogging, and you guys have been awesome all the way. As I find my feet more and more in what I do, I want you guys to also feel at home here. One way to do that is for you to know me better. Some of you who have been following from the beginning, and paying attention, probably know even the size of my bra. But if you're new or have any pending questions, personal or otherwise, put it down in the comments, and I promise to tackle it.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Watch Full Movie - Oleku 1 and 2 by Tunde Kelani

On Tunde Kelani's Youtube channel, he wrote: "Dear Friends, in the spirit of Valentine and due to popular demand, I have finally decided to upload the part 2 to this timeless love classic O LE KU. You will be able to watch freely from Thursday 14th February 2013 - Valentines Day on our YouTube channel. So why not sit back and relax with loved ones and invoke classic nostalgic memories of love and friendship... Happy Valentines! TK"

Oleku is a timeless love classic produced by Tunde Kelani in the 70s or 80s. I hear that the movie was so popular when it came out that it sparked a fashion revolution in Nigeria with the short aso oke Iro and Buba which is still called Oleku today. I had not watched this movie before and will try to finish it by the weekend. Shot in Yoruba with English subtitles, the movie Synopsis is as follows;

For Those Who Are Single This Valentine

Posted in: , ,

The stores are decorated in candy hearts, flowers and bears. Every TV or radio commercial reminds you that it’s time to remember your sweetheart on this special day for lovers. Your feelings range from sadness, to revulsion to anger. What’s a single person to do?

The following suggestions are designed to both answer that question and to help you have a good day after all, while working to make it your last solo one.

Celebrate the day by planning an activity that is meaningful and enjoyable to you:

- Go to a day spa for “the works”
- Plan an intimate dinner for 3 or 4
- Go ice-skating or to the movies with a fun friend
- Go out to dinner and a movie with a group of other singles
- Focus on what you enjoy and make a conscious decision about how to mark the day
- Un-Valentine's Day parties are very popular and can be a lot of silly fun. You can attend one or throw one of your own.
