Would you Get a Husband From Your Village?

Posted in: , , ,

In a recent interview, a Nigerian musician - Eva Alordiah - expressed her dream to marry a Nigerian man stating, "I am single but not searching. My mother is working on that. She is going to get me a husband from the village. I don’t know how the search is going for her though. I think Nigerian men are fine, we have the best crop of men in Nigeria."

One would immediately assume she must have been joking about the "husband from the village" part, but it's not so far fetched. We have discussed getting husbands and wives from Nigeria on this blog, but taking it a step further by having parents find a "virgin" from the village is exactly what some men and women in Lagos and other cities or outside the country do. The question is, as a woman, would you?

  4. I am a city girl born and bred and I vowed never to date a man from the village simply because their mentality is very different from city bred kids infact we are worlds apart. There was one who was interested in me and we started "talking" he was one of those who moved to the west when he was much older at 28 through the kindness of relatives, he polished himself linguistically, scrubbed up well and I only found out about his village roots 6 weeks into "talking" (what does talking even mean?. I am talking about deep down, walk barefoot wear raggedy clothes, fetch firewood and water from the stream kind of villager yes he was that type lol he was very western in his dressing dealbreaker was his thinking dude had some very outdated and retrogressive ideologies seeing polygamy as being normal being one of them. I decided to just be friends with him. I am sorry I would never willingly date a village boy I just can't. And this one justified my reasons for not dating village boys.

  6. I quite disagree with u on some issues, pendo. Cos he walked barefoot does not make him a lesser man please. There are lots of men outside that did same before being brushed up into the western civilization.

    1. can you underline where Pendo called him a lesser man for having walked about barefooted. it was his mentality that broke the deal. Villager or globetrotter, your mentality can be backward.

  7. I watch my cousin dumb down her conversation and generally wince whenever her husband joins in a discussion in public. Not an encouraging sight.

The key here is intellectual compatibility and similarity of values. If its same, brushing him up appearance wise is easy. But to find such a man,in the village? talk of finding a needle in a haystack.
