Beyonce Sings Back To Black For The Great Gatsby Soundtrack

If there was one song I will never forget Amy Winehouse for, it is Back to Black. She has other classics that I love just as well, but the sadness of Back to Black just calls to that deep place that many of us never allow ourselves to get to. And I congratulate Beyonce for doing justice to this song for The Great Gatsby, though maybe using the original Amy Winehouse version may have been better?

Lana Del Ray - Young and Beautiful (The Great Gatsby Version)

It is not often that I see a movie that moves me as deeply as The Great Gatsby. It is not a tear jerker by any means but if one is minded it could be a weepie. After you've left the cinema. There is a depth beyond the glitz and glamor of the movie. It was that depth I think Baz Luhrmann wanted us to plumb in his version of the doomed love story contained in The Great Gatsby. That man is a genius. I simply love his mind.

And Lana Del Rey, who I don't think I've heard of before now nailed it in the lyrics, music and performance of Young and Beautiful.

Love Before (Oro Ife) - Laolu ft. Lindsey

Lovely song. I was especially moved by the bridge which is in English, not that I did not appreciate the Nigerian touch with the Yoruba lyrics, everything combined was really great. I was introduced to Laolu Sebanjo as a visual artist with an Africa-themed inclination, which he calls Afromysterics. One can easily feel how that vibe infuses this song, he actually wrote and arranged Oro Ife.

Mo Eazy's Smile - Music Video Romance

Just found out about Mo Eazy recently through the Smile video, and it was easy to see why he's produced by Darey's Soul Muzik.

Kim Wonder - How You Dey [Music Video Romance]

Kim Wonder is a South Africa based Nigerian musician. She recently released the official video for her single “How You dey”. The video was shot in Johannesburg, and highlights the essence of humanity, love and kindness even to strangers. It's a lovely video and the set kind of reminds me of Jill Scott's A Long Walk.

Bachelor by D'Banj - Music Video Romance

I'll like to say a few words about the song and Dbanj first, before I talk about the video. When the relationship broke down between Dbanj and Don Jazzy, there was the question of the way forward for the singer. He had been the frontman with Don Jazzy, would he now just be a hanger-on in his new label? Would he still make good music? What would his new sound be like on beats not produced by Don Jazzy?Oyato didn't seem to be a good start but with this, Dbanj has redeemed himself. For me, anyway.

The video? LOL...A lady is angry about the bachelor's philandering ways, and when he refuses to change, she trashes his stuff and skips town. There's honestly nothing too unique about the video when compared to recent international or Nigerian music, it's all about expensive lifestyles and video vixens. Not that I was expecting different from Dbanj. Maybe he'll surprise me one day sha.

Ebisan - Jowo: Music Video Romance

Singer-songwriter Ebisan is also one of the actors in another of her video directed by MR AK ONE. This one features South African artist Moneoa as The Bride, with fun cameos from Nigerian RnB group Styl-Plus and rapper Provabs. The story illustrates that saying, Hell Hath No Fury. Nice enough, but I think the singer's voice was a bit over auto-tuned in the song.
