Posted in: , , ,

We've all heard the story, either a public figure or celebrity, or someone we know confesses to an extramarital affair, and tongues start wagging. Sometimes, the marriage in question withstands the infidelity; other times, the breach of trust is too deep, and the couple splits. The question of which marriage will, and which will not withstand infidelity continues to be a guessing game.

More Women Taking Their Husband's Last Names After Marriage

Posted in: ,

Recent studies in America have consistently shown that the number of women taking their husbands' last name after marriage is on the rise. A longitudinal study published in 2009 found a increase in women leaving behind their maiden names after marriage, starting in the 1990s. In an April 2013 survey by HuffPost Weddings and YouGov, 61 percent of people surveyed said that women should take their husbands' name.

Behind The Prevalence of Baby Factories in Nigeria

Babies rescued from a baby factory in 2011 - Vanguard

I started this post with the brief thoughts I shared about this news that another "baby factory" has been found so soon after a previous one was raided. I honestly feel that those taboos/stigmas I listed there have no place in a 21st century world. They may have worked in the past where the mass media was a word yet to be coined, or where most women got married before 15, not any more.

Beyonce Sings Back To Black For The Great Gatsby Soundtrack

Posted in: ,

If there was one song I will never forget Amy Winehouse for, it is Back to Black. She has other classics that I love just as well, but the sadness of Back to Black just calls to that deep place that many of us never allow ourselves to get to. And I congratulate Beyonce for doing justice to this song for The Great Gatsby, though maybe using the original Amy Winehouse version may have been better?

Playing Hard to Get or Being Hard to Get?

In the past, people used to seek mates who would “complete” them, but today’s singles are looking for something different. According to the study findings, singles are looking for a partner who can offer intimacy, companionship and personal fulfillment more so than financial stability.

What's That Look On Your Face?

By Atala,

The human face is capable of an amazing variety of expressions; smiles of joy; frowns of anger; grimaces of disgust and raised eyebrows of surprise. And just as a picture is worth a thousand words, so it is that these expressions do a wonderful job of communicating how we feel, sometimes more than anything that we could ever say.

Lana Del Ray - Young and Beautiful (The Great Gatsby Version)

It is not often that I see a movie that moves me as deeply as The Great Gatsby. It is not a tear jerker by any means but if one is minded it could be a weepie. After you've left the cinema. There is a depth beyond the glitz and glamor of the movie. It was that depth I think Baz Luhrmann wanted us to plumb in his version of the doomed love story contained in The Great Gatsby. That man is a genius. I simply love his mind.

And Lana Del Rey, who I don't think I've heard of before now nailed it in the lyrics, music and performance of Young and Beautiful.

Get the Romance Back in your Marriage

By Mimi Adebayo

Okay men, have you ever thought of doing something that’ll make your spouse blush for the next seven days? You know, give her that special feeling and make her remember the days when you first met. I call it the ‘Once in a lifetime’ treatment. Trust me; it’ll improve your love life and definitely the bedroom life too.
