37-year-old Tram Thuy Nguyen had been very happy over the past few months, moving to the big city, getting a new job and planning a wedding to her fiancé. The couple shared an apartment on West Fourth Street in Greenwich Village and were supposed to get married in July. Unfortunately, all of her plans and dreams were smashed in a freak accident caused by wind-blown plywood.
Ms. Nguyen leaves behind a mourning fiancé. She had lived in Philadelphia since she was 14 but moved to New York eight months ago to be with her fiancé. She had just recently started to work for the real-estate agency Keller Williams NYC. The fiance has spoken out about his loss in a statement released yesterday.
"She always saw the best in everyone. She was always reminding me to see the same. We were together for five of the best years of our lives. We planned to be married in July of this year. The family and I have decided to bury her in Philadelphia. This is the most devastating loss. She was the woman of my dreams. I hope people will remember her by seeing the best in one another and treating each other with true kindness."
According to NBC News, the bride-to-be was killed by a large piece of wood from a construction site while she was walking not far from her apartment on Tuesday evening. A strong wind blew the piece of plywood off a security fence where a 200-unit condominium complex is replacing the former hospital, and propelled it into Tram Thuy, also known as Tina.
After being hit by the 4-by-8 piece of plywood, Nguyen collapsed to the ground and hit her head on the side walk. She was rushed to the hospital with severe head trauma, bruising and lacerations. Shortly after midnight, she was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital, reports NBC.
