Police IG, Mohammed Abubakar - Please Stop These Mob Killings!

Posted in: , , ,

I believe Mob killings stem from police actions and inaction. One could say the respect for life in Nigeria has continued to wear thin because over the years, civilians had either lost trust in the government, especially in the work of the police and the judicial system which have been derailed by corruption and incompetence. Or civilians are simply emulating the brand of justice dished by the police in their extra-judicial killings.

Short Story - My Baby Left Because I Cried

Posted in: ,

By Kem Nathan-Gaul

That baby meant so much to me. Luke and I had tried really hard to have a child. We had been married for three years and had two miscarriages in that time. We called them accidents. Maybe Luke felt that by calling them accidents, they would feel less real to me and therefore, less painful. Not true. I smiled and said, “Yes, the accident…”, only because I wanted him to move on and change the subject. Perhaps talk about hockey or one of his patients at the hospital. Finally, that one month when we didn’t hope, pray and wish; it happened. I got pregnant.

Going For What You Want And Awkward First Dates

The Ideal Naija Husband is the Old Spice Man
Confident and Smooth - right?

My sister-in-law visited us recently and spent a lot of time gisting about her latest man issues with my wife. I'd listen in half-heartedly until she mentioned wanting a particular guy to "man up". "Does he like me or not?" "If he does, he should come out with it and be direct!"

I asked her if she'd be willing to make a move and tell him she liked him and she responded:

"ME? Tell a guy I like him? Back to Sender!"

Desiderata - Great Advice For Life

Posted in: ,
Desiderata means the things we desire in Latin. It is also the title of poem written in 1927 by American writer Max Ehrmann. The poem became widely known after it was used by a priest in his church's 1956 devotional. The poem has also featured in spoken-word recordings published in the 1970s. I find the advice contained in the poem very encouraging and soothing too.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Max Ehrmann, "Desiderata"

Are Women More Daring or Safer Drivers Than Men?

I drive the car more often than Atala does as he prefers commuting to work using his bike. Because of this, the driving seat is adjusted to my smallie legs, as are the mirrors. This means that sometimes when we want to go out, I'm the one driving. I also love driving, and when we did our road trip I was ecstatic being let loose on the open roads.

Pope Francis Says "Who am I to Judge" Gays?

The comments made by Pope Francis about gay people reminded me of one of the questions I answered in a recent interview. What is Your Most Embarrassing Moment?

There's the saying that no one is perfect, and this cannot be more true for the life of a typical woman. Not only do we set very high standards for ourselves, nature has also given us a set of very high jumps to hurdle over. If it's not the major milestones of periods, childbirth, breastfeeding, weaning, then it is the little ones like impressing that cute guy we fancy or coming out tops over our favorite rival in school.

Since it was Friday night and also an informal meeting, I thought to pull Lisa along.

Did They Have Better Sex In the Past Than Now?

But the fattening rooms of time past is also said to be venues to teach young women how they can enjoy sex with their husbands so they probably had it good."

Is Premarital Sex Necessary To Keep Relationships?

Posted in: , , ,

Whether online or on the streets, the issue of sex before marriage is always controversial. Some people are able to abstain, either from personal convictions or their religious beliefs or simply avoiding romantic attachments until they're ready for marriage. Others are more about doing what works for their relationship and regard sex as part of what binds them to their loved ones.

Couple Love - Saint Obi and Wife Lydia Nwafor

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Saint Obi was the actor to beat in Nollywood. He was an action hero, and a romantic heartthrob. A movie was not complete without the Saint, and in my opinion he merited it. But he's been missing in action in the past few years, and it seems it was to focus on his personal life. In these recent pictures, he is with his wife, Lydia Saint-Nwafor, for whom he threw a surprise birthday party.

Love Letter To the Woman of my Dreams 2

Dear You, "Love has a face, I'll recognize it when I see it"

I close my eyes and I see you. This feeling is familiar, I recognize it easily. Indeed, if only it were possible to love without injury; fidelity is not enough. The hurt is in the act of possession. We are too small in mind and body to possess another person without pride, or to be possessed without humiliation.

This is because no one is perfect and a couple are usually two different individuals with diverse backgrounds and personality. But if you're well matched, you're both respectful of one another, loving, and share a lot of the same interests - This is the 80%.
